Much research has been done on successful people in business to discover what they have in common. It turns out that these people share quite a few commonalities even though they arrived at success through different paths. It isn’t that surprising since you can apply these same habits to lots of other areas in your life. For the most part, people understand how they are failing to measure up. It might be difficult to accept this but it you really need to understand that you aren’t alone. If you truly want to have a successful business, then think about working on your inner game.
People who are Type A personalities might have a hard time admitting to weakness, but that weakness needs to be looked at. Just about the most difficult thing for people to do is to face the things about ourselves that aren’t great or that might actually be weak. When you are in business, you cannot find success until you check out your weaknesses or limitations. The thing to do,though,is to concentrate on your strengths. Work on your limitations when you are able, but invest the majority of your time into the areas in which you are strong. Make a list and write them all down, and then make a conscious effort to make your strengths even stronger. This will help you out quite a lot more and make you even more successful than if you spend all of your time focused on the fixing of yourself. It is nearly impossible to find someone who actually appreciates being micro-managed. When it is done by a “control freak” (forgive the colloquialism) it is even worse. If this seems at all familiar, you are just wasting a bunch of time and energy trying to force everything to go your way. Learn to genuinely trust the people who work and manage for you and then delegate whatever is appropriate. You’ve got higher value things to be spending your time on and this is how you need to be spending your time. If you are trying to manage things that should be managed by other people your operating capacity is going to be sub-par at best.
It is a common mistake for people to take for granted everything related to their business, even the employees that are helping them run everything. The normal course of action for most businesses, including corporations,is to ignore everything until it’s a problem. All of us use computers in some way to run our business. This is a good example of what we are discussing. Through regular servicing, many of problems that are typically experienced will simply not manifest. Most companies will consider this a discretionary expense, and therefore will not do it regularly. If this isn’t done on a regular basis, production, and your company, could come to a screeching halt. The smart business will have preventive maintenance performed on critical equipment and avoid unexpected shutdowns.
You can go as far as you want to go with your business, you have the capability to get there. It’s important to remember that your negative thought patterns took time to build. You can spend all of your time trying to correct them.
You can, however, learn about the habits that successful people have. From here, take them along with the positive traits you area already displaying and get to work. Work on them every day when you remember because sometimes you will forget.
